Sharon Winton

CEO & Director - Lymphoma Australia

Sharon Winton is CEO of Lymphoma Australia, a member of the Lymphoma Coalition and has been a health consumer representative on a number of consumer stakeholder meetings in Australia and overseas.

Prior to her current role, Sharon worked with a private health insurance company in relationship and strategic management. Previous to this position Sharon was employed in the health and fitness industry as a physical education teacher and Director of a Sport and Recreation Company.

Sharon is extremely passionate about ensuring all Australians have equitable access to information and medicines. Over the last 2 years twelve new treatments have been listed on the PBS for both rare and common subtypes of lymphoma.

At the personal and professional level Sharon has been involved with patients, carers and health professionals after Sharon’s mother, Shirley Winton OAM, became the founding president of Lymphoma Australia in 2004.

Dr Jason Butler is a clinical haematologist with Icon Cancer Centre, and a Senior Staff Haematologist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Dr Butler completed his dual training in clinical and laboratory haematology in 2004 following a research posting at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research investigating the role of bcl-2 in primary resistance in chronic myeloid leukaemia. He also completed a Masters in Medical Science (Clinical Epidemiology) to assist with development of investigator-initiator research studies.

His major clinical interests are in all aspects of malignant haematology, particularly in myeloma and lymphoma, as well as autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation. He is the Tumour Stream Lead for myeloma at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, acting as a principal investigator in a number of clinical trials including CAR-T therapy and other novel approaches to management of lymphoma.

Dr Butler is the current chair of the Haematology Reference Committee of eviQ, the Australian-based governance committee establishing consensus guidelines for cancer treatments, and a council member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation.

Gayle Murray

Company Secretary & Director - Lymphoma Australia

Gayle is Secretary of the Board, Lymphoma Australia providing secretarial services including minutes of all meetings and as a member of the Board, participates in decision-making processes, strategic planning and contributes to the initiatives of Lymphoma Australia. Gayle has over 20 years’ experience in both international relations and executive assistance having worked in roles such as Manager, International Relations; Executive Secretary to the Pro Vice Chancellor (Health & Science), Griffith University; and Communications Officer/Personal Assistant at CSIRO; and Deakin University.

Gayle has been with Lymphoma Australia for over 10 years and has a personal family connection with lymphoma. She holds a Graduate Diploma of Applied Science (Information Management) from Deakin University.

Craig Keary is an experienced financial services executive and non-executive director with more than 35 years’ experience across stockbroking, asset management and wealth management in Australia, Japan and the United Kingdom.
 
Craig is currently Chief Executive Officer of Keyview Financial Group. He has previously held senior leadership roles including Managing Director Asia Pacific at AMP Capital, Chief Executive Officer of Selfwealth (ASX-listed, later acquired by Syfe Group), and senior executive positions within the Westpac/BT Financial Group. He has extensive experience in governance, capital management, digital transformation and building trusted financial communities.
 
Craig serves as Chair of Lymphoma Australia and is deeply committed to advancing the organisation’s mission to support patients, families and healthcare professionals affected by lymphoma. He brings strong strategic oversight, financial stewardship and a passion for community impact to the Board.
 
Having lived and worked internationally, Craig is particularly interested in long-term thinking, intergenerational wellbeing and the role strong communities play in improving outcomes. He believes that health, financial security and purpose are deeply interconnected, and he is proud to contribute to an organisation that supports Australians through some of life’s most challenging moments.
 
Craig has seen first-hand the impact that Lymphoma can have within a family through his father’s journey.

Stephany Hiew

Company Treasurer & Director - Lymphoma Australia

Stephany is a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA ANZ), with over 15 years experience in corporate finance, financial management, audit and strategic analysis. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Science, with majors in Marketing and Psychology alongside her accounting qualifications. 
 
As Treasurer and Board Member, Stephany brings invaluable experience from her career in financial audit and assurance at Ernst & Young, working with large ASX listed clients in both Australia and the United States. She has since spent more than a decade in finance leadership roles within the Real Estate and property industry, where she is well regarded for her people leadership and financial acumen while partnering with C-suite and senior commercial stakeholders across varied roles at Westfield and Scentregroup. 
 
Stephany also brings lived experience as a survivor of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, having been diagnosed in 2024 with the rare and aggressive subtype Primary Mediastinal B-cell Lymphoma (PMBCL). During her chemotherapy treatment and recovery, she directly benefited from Lymphoma Australia’s support groups and patient resources, giving her a deep personal understanding of the organisation’s impact. She is passionate about mental health and wellbeing, and giving back to the community. Stephany has a longstanding commitment to volunteering, across student organisations and as a volunteer teacher in the Primary Ethics program in public schools.

Useful Definitions

  • Refractory: This means the lymphoma does not get better with treatment. The treatment didn’t work as hoped.
  • Relapsed: This means the lymphoma came back after being gone for a while after treatment.
  • 2nd line treatment: This is the second treatment you get if the first one didn’t work (refractory) or if the lymphoma comes back (relapse).
  • 3rd line treatment: This is the third treatment you get if the second one didn’t work or the lymphoma comes back again.
  • Approved: Available in Australia and listed by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA).
  • Funded: Costs are covered for Australian citizens. This means if you have a Medicare card, you shouldn’t have to pay for the treatment.[WO7]

You need healthy T-cells to make CAR T-cells. For this reason, CAR T-cell therapy cannot be used if you have a T-cell lymphoma – yet.

Special Note: Although your T-cells are removed from your blood for CAR T-cell therapy, most of our T-cells live outside of our blood – in our lymph nodes, thymus, spleen and other organs.
